Thank you to other generous folks who contributed with Ann for a total
of $76.00 today.
DON'T FORGET OUR INSTALLATION ON JULY 7 AT THE DELRAY BEACH CLUB AT
12:00 SHARP
There is a dress code that does not allow jeans, shorts, or tee
shirts...jackets and ties are not necessary but a collared golf shirt
and khaki pants are fine.
The last Saturday of the month we will always need volunteers to help
deliver food. Please look for the sign up sheets.
The last Thursday of the month is reading at the Achievement Center.
Please come at either 8 or 9 AM to help.
DUES are due. Please pay up and save us a stamp for billing it to you.
Bob Teninga introduced Joe Gilley with Old School Square. He came to
speak with us about how the downturn in the economy is affecting the
arts programs that are so important to our quality of life.
Unfortunately, during difficult times, often people are faced with
deciding if we want to have programs in the arts or fire and police.
That choice alone is really not a fair comparison. After all, when we
are having difficulties in the economy, we need the arts to get us out
of the doldrums. Arts counteract negativity.
Both visual and performing arts need support in our community.
Fortunately, OSS has been able to continue to raise money through
different means. Ticket sales are up. There are 350 new Crest Theatre
subscribers this year. Members are able to purchase tickets prior to
the general public. OSS has established a new ticket process that
allows for some flexibility in the shows you see when you buy a
subscription of tickets. There will be 6 shows and you may pick 4.
Some of the examples of shows for the coming season are Cabaret, the
Gold Dragon Acrobats, and the Winter Wonderland Ice Show.
An exciting event opens on June 25th and runs through October 25th.
There is a Barbie exhibit which features Barbie dolls from many decades.
In order to keep with the theme, Cranes' Beach House has a Barbie suite
available in conjunction with the Barbie exhibit. There will also be
doll houses on display.
Joe thanks everyone for their past and continued support!
Green Hat was $775.00...Dave Buist drew the 5 of hearts. Maybe next
week!

July 4th, the Rotary club will sponsor 2 events at the parade on
Atlantic Ave from Veterans Park east to A1A. We will sponsor both the
bike decorating contest and the beautiful baby bathing suit contest.
The event promises to be a lot of fun. We need help if you are able,
please come and join us at either the tent close to the Marriott or the
gazebo at Veteran's park around 2:00 PM. See you there!
Kurt Godfrey called for a round of applause for our outgoing president,
Steve Bates. Steve took a well deserved bow for all the hard work and
effort he has put into our club. Please don't forget to come to the
Installation Luncheon on Tuesday, July 7th at 12:00 sharp at the Delray
Beach Club. Remember the dress code! No shorts, tee shirts, or jeans.
Bob introduced our speaker today, Linda Greenberg. She moved to Florida
from Maryland where she was a very active volunteer. Her most recent
endeavor has been to establish 4Uganda.org. Through a trip to Uganda to
see the silverback gorillas, Linda realized how much help the children
there needed. Many did not have adequate clothing and supplies and
lacked education and even paper and pencils to write with.
Three million children as young as age 8 are working in quarries to make
25 cents a day to help feed their siblings and parents. Most have no
shoes and there is not enough food. Please go to her website and see
how you can help. For a $400 donation, you can send a child to a
boarding school for a year and provide all supplies and uniforms needed.
You can donate any amount and it helps a lot. Please consider doing
something to assist those in need.
Linda has established the first Kindness Club in the US at St Andrews
School in Boca. The objective of the club is to do one good deed per
month for someone in need for an entire year. The club will start in
the fall.
Ernie Simon drew the 7 of clubs in the Green Hat today. The pot was
$819.00!
Have a great 4th! See you at the parade!
