Ramblings July 7, 2009

 

We had a wonderful installation lunch.  Bruce serenaded us on a grand
baby grand at the Delray Beach Club.  He had as much fun playing it as
we did listening.  Thanks, Bruce!

 

Harvey Brown welcomed us and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

 

Mike Campbell did the invocation.

 

Betsy Owen, Past DG presented our club with the DG banner.  This is the
first time in our district that the DG banner has stayed in the same
club for 2 years straight.  This is something that we can all be very
proud of!

 

Betsy Owen recognized all the past presidents in attendance today.  

 

Steve Bates highlighted some of our accomplishments for the year.
Although they were numerous, each 3rd grader in public school in Delray
Beach was given a dictionary by our club.

The total number was just under 1,000.  We also provided a new book for
each student's birthday at Pine Grove Elementary (about 700 books.)
President Steve asked us to give ourselves a round of applause to
celebrate our hard work for the year.  Afterward, we applauded Steve for
his leadership and positive direction.

separately after the others)

After the new officers and board members were installed, each was
presented with a Rotary pin.

 

Our program was bittersweet as we said good-bye to our outgoing
president, Steve Bates.  Bob presented Steve with a beautiful framed
gold gavel with plaque to honor his service.

 

Steve Bates presented our new president Bob with his president's pin.
Bob talked about his hopes for the coming year and reminded us to put
service before self.  We are very fortunate to have such insightful
leadership for the coming year.

 

President Bob concluded the meeting with the Green Hat.  That ace of
spades still eludes us!

We will play again next week.  The pot was around $816.00.
