Harvey Brown introduced our visiting Rotarians and guests: None
Bob called our past DG, Betsy Owen to present awards to Rotarians with
40+ years of service to Rotary: Congratulations to Tom Cook @ 42 years.
He thanked his Dad, Tom Cook, Sr. for providing such an excellent role
model for him. Senior Mr. Cook was past president of the Ft Lauderdale
club and has been in Rotary longer than he can recall!
Betsy is also our Foundation Chair. She gave us all a 50/50 Challenge
to become Paul Harris Fellow. This was set up in 1957 to honor those
who contribute $1,000 to the foundation which supports programs that
enhance fellowship, friendship, and good will while providing
humanitarian grants. GSE is also one of their programs. The double
sustainer designation has been reinstated. Participants contributing
$200+ last year were Harvey Brown, Jr., Steve Bates, Mark Denkler, Nick
Loeb, Nancy Owens, Marty Phillips, Leo Phillips, and Jim Pignato (also
double sustainer). Tom Stanley, Harvey Brown, Jimmy Weatherspoon were
presented with their Paul Harris Fellow.
Mike Campbell gave the Sergeant at Arms Report. Candace gave $21 in
honor of her birthday. Tom gave $5 in honor of his. With the generous
donations of others in attendance, we raised $71.00 today.
Boo's went out to the following AWOL's: Bruce Wentzel, Dave Armstrong,
Dave Harden
Bob reminds us to bring our books for Cat Island.
November 3, 2009 is the service above self luncheon at Old School Square
at 11:30. We need your nominations by 9/15/2009.
We inducted a new member, Mil-Jean Bennett, from LIPS (Living in Place
for Seniors) and reverse mortgage specialist. Please make sure you meet
her and welcome her to the club!
We were given a special program by one of our own today. Bruce Williams
was introduced by Tom Stanley. He attended Hobart College. Bruce has
entertained in Delray for the last 37. He has been the organist for the
Unity Church of Delray for the last 15 years. Presently, he is organist
for the Congregational Church in Boynton Beach. Plus, he plays for
several area retirement homes.
Bruce did a great medley of show tunes for us to enjoy. This rendition
included the selections from the Sound of Music, Breakfast at Tiffany's,
Wizard of Oz, Somewhere Over the Rainbow, and You'll Never Walk Alone.
Bravo, Bruce, Bravo on a wonderful performance for us all!
Today's jackpot was almost $1100.00 with only about 20 more cards to
go...Time to get those tickets! Bob Teninga drew the 5 of spades...we
play again next week.
