Ramblings 9-22-2009
Invocation by Bob Teninga
Jimmy Witherspoon lead us in two songs, America the Beautiful, and
Smile, Sing a Song.
There were no birthdays or announcements
We welcomed Mark Denkler back from Georgia.
David O'Connell had a guest. Emanuel St. Germaine
Fred Bonardi gave the stock market report. The DOW was up 54 points to
9832. The FED is meeting this week. Fred does not foresee a change in
the Fed Funds Rate.
The Sergeant of Arms Reported that we collected $50.00 after a $20.00
contribution by our president.
We had two special awards for Mark Denkler. Mark has 14=2 0years of
perfect attendance, and is a Paul Harris Fellow! Congratulations Mark!
Announcements:
*         Tom Stanley needs help finding speakers for after November. If
you have someone that you think would be a good fit, please get in touch
with Tom!
*         On October 15th there will be a Rotaract/Rotary Social at
Wright by the Sea.
*         The Service above Self award=2 0will be presented November
3rd. We will be meeting at 11:30 AM at the Old School Square on the
Atlantic Avenue side for the presentation. Please mark your calendars!
Tom Stanley introduced our speaker: Linda Gunn the president of the Boca
Raton Junior League.
Linda informed us about several facts about the local Junior League
club:
There are 748 members
They contribute about $300,000.00 locally every year.
The main focus of the Junior League is Woman and Children issues.
Some of the activities that Junior League is actively involved in are:
*      &nbs p;  New Playground for the Milagro Child Care Center in
Delray Beach
*         "In the Pines" that provides child care for Migrant workers
and low income housing.
*         A member of "spirit of giving" that is a collection of 30
charities that tries to prevent duplication. This year they were
successful in providing 1790 backpacks for children.
