Mike Campbell discussed the club's declining attendance in recent
months. We have fallen overall to 82%. This is not good for a club
that has provided the last 2 district governors. Please do all possible
to attend our meetings. You have many benefits by doing so -
fellowship, good food, and interesting speakers!
Get your tickets for the raffle while they're hot off the press. Alan
Kornblau has more when you run out! Tickets are reasonably priced...$10
each or 3 for $20. Please give stubs and $ to Alan.
Bill Arnst is in charge of selling wreaths this year. Please give him $
now. Don't wait until the last minute.
Craig Hammett is also in charge of Adopt a Family this season. In years
past we have adopted a needy family and provided food and gifts for
them. We are doing the same this year. Please get money to Craig to
help with this project.
Our own past Ambassadorial Scholar and present member of Rotaract,
Christine Dombrowsky, spoke to us about networking. In the past,
networking was knocking on doors in a neighborhood to sell a product.
Then it evolved into calling someone at home to sell a product. Since
both of those have waned in popularity, we now network by building
strategic alliances. For example, a carpet salesperson and a person
that does carpet cleaning have a natural alliance for obvious reasons.
Christine suggests that we all build our networks to include some
complimentary alliances (the carpet example above), some of the same
audience (to keep up with industry trends and exchange ideas), and those
that are movers and shakers.
In order to successfully network, you must decide what your best
referral would be and tell people so they understand what you do and can
send people your way. It's always better to get a referral for a
business through someone you know than by just looking up someone in the
yellow pages.
The Delray Beach Chamber of Commerce sponsors a monthly networking
event. They have an evening business card exchange once per month.
But, what do you do if you get stuck with one person and can't seem to
get away? Christine suggests that you introduce that person to someone
else. Usually people attend events to meet new people and stay with
someone they know because they may be uncomfortable with a room full of
people they don't know.
Christine talks with other business professionals as a coach and also
coaches young people on how to get into good schools after high school.
She can come into your company and do segments during meetings or
facilitate meetings about networking. She wants to be able to get
involved with the school system. If you know anyone that might help
her, please let her know.
Green Hat has about $200. Steve Rich pulled the 3 of hearts...Until
next week...Meeting adjourned.
