Ramblings December 1, 2009

We missed our piano man Bruce today!

Jimmy Weatherspoon led us in song. We sang #34 He Has the Whole World in
His Hands", and #57 R-O-T-A-R-Y

Happy birthday Steve! Steve Rich was kind enough to donate $50.00 for
his birthday today.

Happy Anniversary Ira Fine! Ira donated $25.00 in recognition for his 25
years married.

Harvey Brown introduced some of our visiting Rotarians:

*         Harriet Primack from Red Bank, NJ

*         Bob Brickman from South Haven, Michigan

*         Tony Harrington, Champlain, Illinois

Fred Bonardi was here to give us the good news that the stock market was
rallying on good news from the manufacturing sector. The DOW was up 137
points, and the S&P was up 15 points.

Roy Simon gave the Sergant of Arms report; we had some AWOLS (BOO!):

*         Fred Bonardi 

*         Ray Ripley

There were some announcements:

*         Bill Arnst announced that wreath orders are now closed, and
wreathes will be here next week. There may be one or two extra depending
on how many we order.

*         Alan Kornblau reminded us to collect money for the holiday
raffle. If you have not gotten your tickets yet, please talk to Alan. As
a reminder, 1st prize is $1000.00, and there are 5 2nd prizes of $200.00
each. These are great stocking stuffers!

*         Craig Hammett spoke about the "Adopt a Family" program. Craig
will be collecting money until December 15th for the family that we are
sponsoring. They will be joining us on December 22nd for lunch so please
help contribute!

*         The dictionary project for 3rd graders starts December 8th,
next Tuesday meet at Banyan Creek Elementary at 8:30 AM. It takes 30-45
minutes, please try to attend!!

Student and Teacher of the Month:

We recognized Hana Engroff, Atlantic High School. Hana wants to attend
Northwestern to pursue an education in Journalism. She has several
accolades, some of which include:

*         Varsity Co-Captain Cross Country Team

*         Spanish Honor Society

*         National Honor Society

*         Volunteer for Big Brothers/Big Sisters

*         Volunteer for Habitat for Humanity

*         Key club Member

*         Yearbook editor

 

We also recognized Hana's teacher Ken Swart. Ken is Hana's English
teacher and Yearbook advisor.

 

Our Guest Speaker is our own Mil-Jean Bennett, Executive Director of
Living in Place for Seniors (LIPS). LIPS assists seniors with a
multitude of issues such as home care, correspondence, senior fraud
protection, etc. Mil-Jean was inspired by her father's medical journey.
Some of the things we learned about LIPS:

1.       LIPS brings Professionals together to help seniors

2.       Share the information with the public

3.       Provide Informational meetings for organizations that are
interested

4.       LIPS slogan is "Information with Inspiration"
