Happy New Year!

accompaniment)
Vive La Rotary No Birthdays and No Anniversaries
Fred Bonardi gave the stock report...the Dow was down 23 points but last
year the DJIA was up 18.8% which is pretty incredible considering and
the S&P was up 23% (It's great when Santa shows up at the end of the
year, huh?) Gold is at $1,125/oz - Wow!
A sad announcement, Bruce Galloway passed away on Dec 25, 2009 - Our
thoughts are with his family
Harvey Brown gave us a commentary about the new rules that the Federal
Gov't passed with regard to the flying public. What a mess!
Visiting Rotarians: Frieda from NY; Fred Jones RI; Christina Dombrowsky
from Rotaract
And Gonzalo from Rotaract (our speaker)
Make Ups - Harvey, Mickey, Dave Buist (2x), Sid Breman (10x-Wow! Thank
you)
Ernie gave the Sgt at Arms Report: We raised $105.00 this week - thank
you!
Betsy Owen as past DG recognized a special Paul Harris Fellow. She asks
that we all consider becoming PH Society members and give $1000 annually
in perpetuity. Betsy presented Leo Phillips with his +4 pin. Leo
thanked our club for their continued generosity in giving to the annual
fund. It's very important to help Rotary continue to do good works
worldwide.
Dave Buist, our Rotaract liaison, introduced Gonzalo, the new President.
Hans was serving in that office but since he and Katherine returned
home, Gonzalo stepped up to take over the responsibility. Gonzalo
graduated from Jacksonville State and is currently the marketing
director for Roher Cosmetic Dentistry. He is also tennis pro.
Gonzalo gave us an update on their membership. Rotaract meets on
Wednesday evenings at 7:00 at Boston's on the Beach. They average about
20 people at each meeting. Typically they have non-profit speakers.
The goal for 2010 is to grow memberships. The fee is reasonable,
$75.00. They typically do not have dinner during the meeting.
Rotaract's fund raising is contributed to nonprofits in the area. They
are planning to participate in a Habitat Day and Relay for Life. They
are also spreading the word about who they are by appointing ambassadors
to attend a Rotary meeting at each of the clubs in the area to introduce
themselves. This year they are also planning to participate with us in
our booth at the Delray Affair. In order to raise funds (goal $10,000)
for the Delray Vocational School this year, they are planning a dance,
golf event.
There will be more to come as plans are made and dates are set. To be
in Rotaract, you should be between the ages of 18 and 30.
Bill Arnst did the green hat. $103.00 Betsy Owen drew the Ace of
Hearts
