Jimmy Weatherspoon discussed the budget

Budget accepted with one opposing vote from Stormi

Our own Mike Campbell did the program today. He talked about Habitat
for Humanity.

Habitat has several goals:

1.	Eliminate poverty housing
2.	Shelter a matter of consciousness and action
3.	Houses are sold @ profit and financed with affordable loans (30
yrs @0%)
4.	Sweat equity - recipients are required to do 500 volunteer hours

Applicants are accepted based on need and an ability to pay for their
home. Their willingness to partner with the agency and others are also
taken into account. They must have worked for at least 2 years in a
stable job. Also, they have to help other homeowners build as do their
family members. Kids cannot work on the site but can come to the office
and help there or work at the Restore.

Most people think Habitat only helps one family. Mike disagrees.
Habitat has a ripple effect on those that are able to have homes. Most
of these families are stuck in a cycle of poverty. This helps give them
a leg up, a sense of pride in ownership, their kids a sense that they
can do more.

In 20 years Habitat has done 84 homes with 63 mortgages and served over
200 kids.

Mike would like anyone interested in helping with Habitat to become a
family mentor. It involves checking on them once per month and being a
sounding board...listening and giving suggestions or helping. Remember,
Habitat is where A World of Hope Begins....

Gerry Meeks #947 drew the 5 of diamonds....

Better luck next time!
